Letter from PA Council President
March 10, 2020
The SARA PA Council has been working hard on our 2020 Design Awards program that culminates with a celebration of our award winners. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 virus, we have elected to postpone the celebration of award winners that was scheduled for March 25, 2020.
We have been watching the local news as COVID-19 or the “Corona Virus” has landed in our area late last week, and more strikingly a physicians office approximately ½ mile from my office was identified yesterday as a local epicenter.
As Architects, we are careful planners. My limited research into COVID-19 identifies an incubation period of approximately one week and an infection period of approximately two weeks, where individuals are most susceptible to transmission of the virus. This time frame places our event in the middle of the initial infection period.
I am watching, as I write this, local school districts cancelling school, and the school district my children attend are monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to close school if the situation worsens.
The SARA PA Council Design Awards program is produced by a group of volunteers, who take time away from their personal and family lives. It is their passion and dedication that makes this event special. Being mindful of this, I do not want to distract our volunteers from their family needs at this point in time.
When the virus passes, our Design Awards committee will work with Jefferson University to establish a new date for our awards celebration. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Very Truly Yours,
Michael Pilko, FARA
PA Council President
